WHY AI SHOULD NOT BE THE STARTING POINT

Starting with AI may be one of the easiest ways to overlook the bigger opportunity.

THE QUESTION SHAPES WHAT YOU FIND

Ask an organisation to identify AI opportunities and it will find AI opportunities. Ask it to identify automation opportunities and it will find processes that can be automated. Ask where new technology could help and it will produce a technology roadmap.

None of those exercises are necessarily wrong. But they all begin with a predefined lens. A commercially stronger starting point may be: where are we leaving meaningful value unrealised?

TECHNOLOGY CAN CREATE A FALSE SENSE OF PROGRESS

AI initiatives create activity. Workshops happen. Pilots launch. Platforms are evaluated. Teams experiment. Presentations are produced. All of that can feel like progress.

But activity and value are not the same thing. A successful pilot can demonstrate that something works technically without demonstrating that it matters commercially.

THE BIGGEST OPPORTUNITY MAY NOT HAVE “AI” WRITTEN ON IT

Some of the strongest opportunities inside an organisation appear as customer journeys that convert poorly, costly operational bottlenecks, decisions made with incomplete information, service processes unable to scale or business models constrained by the way work has always been performed.

Look at those challenges through an AI lens and you may identify an AI solution. Look at them through a value lens and you may discover something considerably larger.

THE ORDER MATTERS

There is nothing inherently wrong with AI. Quite the opposite. The capabilities now available can create extraordinary opportunities. But sequence matters.

At COMVIORA, our perspective is simple: understand the opportunity before choosing the mechanism. That is where AI becomes powerful — not as the objective, but as one potential means of achieving an important business outcome.

A DIFFERENT STARTING POINT

Imagine entering your next AI strategy discussion without discussing AI at the beginning. Instead, ask where the business could be materially better than it is today.

The conversation changes. And potentially, so do the opportunities you discover.

FIND VALUE. QUANTIFY VALUE. REALISE VALUE.

COMVIORA works with organisations to identify and quantify commercial and operational opportunities before assuming what the solution should be. Perhaps your next AI conversation should begin somewhere else.
